Kathryn Parker is an art teacher and independent artist living and working in Memphis, TN. Her artwork consists of images collected from her mind, dreams, and the world around her. Her subjects usually symbolize concepts or memories that are important to her. Kathryn’s work has been described as quirky, whimsical, and fairytale-like.
She is best known for her handmade “Hanging Boxes.” These boxes are reminiscent of the Greek fresco technique—a process by which a mural is painted directly onto a wet plaster section of wall. The scenes she creates are motivated by the writings of influential people such as Jane Goodall, John Irving, Sue Monk Kidd, Mahatma Gandhi, and Bob Dylan.
